Miss Caroline’s Haunting Experience is a historical Inn with a twist. Amidst the beauty of a historical home, you get
to visit with previous guests. remodeled in exquisite detail. Recent accounts of paranormal activity include a man who many paranormal groups have documented with EVPs (electronic voice phenomena) saying odd things like “Must need burping” – “Trash” – “Garbage” or “Garage” – “Moving” – “Who are you?” A little girl has also been well documented in the house with EVPs saying
“love you”. She has also been caught humming and giggling, sometimes heard with your own ears and no assistance with equipment. Besides those two well documented residents of the house, a lot of other strange human like noises and voices have showed up on EVPs. Florida Ghost Chasers has caught a full body apparition in the front bedroom upstairs. The homeowners report of faucets turning on, lights going on and thermostats being changed right after they had lowered. People have been nudged in the house and strange electromagnetic fields appear and go away. This house is strange and has a lot of paranormal activity, we cannot seem to figure out why.

Miss Caroline’s Guest House St. Augustine, FL.
FCPR investigated Miss Caroline’s on July 11, 2009. It turned out to be one of our favorite cases. We had a walkthrough with the owners several days before the actual investigation to hear the “stories” and to learn about the “hot” spots. During the walkthrough we used a digital recorder and as a last minute thought a blackberry as we
went along. After reviewing the recordings, we found several EVPs. We were extremely excited and couldn’t wait to return in a few days.
Miss Caroline’s has an ambiguous history. Many romantic stories surround the house and we couldn’t find any of it to be factual. One of the rumors was that Miss Lucy Abbott died in the house and now haunts it. This is not the case as Lucy Abbott lived and died in a house several blocks away. Lucy Abbott was responsible for building many
homes in St. Augustine in an area called the “Abbott Tract” which is an area north of the Castillo de San Marcos. Miss Caroline’s is a house that was built by Ms. Abbott but she never lived there. It just leaves us with the question of who haunts the house. Several mediums have visited the inn and they all seem to agree that a woman and a child haunt the inn.
Our investigation went well and we were lucky to have Gary Walters from Florida Paranormal Research as our guest and we learned quite a bit from him. Also along for the ride were Jed and Gary from 904 Paranormal. Gary from FPR brought along a new piece of equipment called the “Puck”. The Puck is an interesting piece of equipment. It has a word bank and uses sensors to detect changes in the environment. The theory is that a spirit can manipulate the environment which will correlate to a word that the spirit wishes to convey. We aren’t too sold on it but some interesting words did keep coming up that warrants further historical research of the inn.
Evidence was only in the form of EVPs but we had quite a few of them!
You can listen to what we found on the evidence page. No one had a personal experience except for a few instances of hearing a young girl giggle, ringing in the ears and one of our investigators having a constant tingling feeling.
One final note:Miss Caroline’s did not ask us to come and investigate. We paid for the use of the inn for the night to obtain further experience. What a great surprise that we had such an interesting evening with lots of great evidence

I am not a ghost hunter or ghost enthusiast. I do believe ghosts and spirits exist, and that the advances
in technology quantify what we can not see. I’m actually a tour director who stayed at Miss Caroline’s Vacation Retreat in November and then returned with my family and friends on Christmas weekend.
I would like to share our paranormal experiences from the perspective of guests staying at the house, not
researchers. Although Miss Caroline’s has been used for paranormal investigations, it should not be catagorized as ONLY a ghost hunting location, it is a beautiful vacation home available for rent, and we would love to see it promoted this way.
I have stayed at Miss Caroline’s twice, once by myself and most recently over the Christmas holidays with my family and friends. If I didn’t believe in ghosts before staying at Miss Caroline’s, one night in that house made me a believer. During my second stay, almost all of us (5 adults and 2 teenagers) felt or heard something paranormal
or unexplainable during our time in the house.
In November, I went to St. Augustine to explore future tour options and develop personalized weekend/weekday packages for guests staying at Miss Caroline’s.
When I made my reservations, a friend was to stay with me, but she had to cancel at the last moment. I wasn’t exactly thrilled to realize that I would be spending the night alone in a house rumored to be haunted. I’m not sure if I’m brave or if I had just convinced myself that there was nothing there to be afraid of … maybe a little bit of both?
After spending the day sightseeing and touring the city, and was ready to relax and watch TV in the living room. It was about 11:30 pm, I had just poured myself a glass of wine in the kitchen and was walking through the dining room when I heard footsteps over my head. Not just footsteps, footsteps that made the floorboards creak! I froze
in my tracks and I think my first thought was to run out of the house screaming like a banshee. My second thought was “Oh no, everything is upstairs!” Yes, my purse, my car keys, my suitcase, all of it was upstairs where I left it in the back bedroom earlier. After a few minutes, I pulled myself together and decided that it was just a noise after all, and I would sleep downstairs on the couch. That lasted about 30 minutes, I was sleepy, but I needed to be in a bed and to brush my teeth. The house had been quiet, so I ventured upstairs, grateful for the brightly lit Christmas trees in every room to light my way.

Continuation of my experiences at Miss Caroline’s by Becky

I’m happy to tell you that my night in the master bedroom was uneventful. If there were noises, I didn’t hear them, and I slept very well until the garbage trucks rumbled up the street at 6:00 am. The banging and clanging of cans and bottles slamming into the dump truck just outside the window of my room rudely awakened me. The weather was a bit chilly (it is north Florida) and I pulled the covers over my head to stay warm, not wanting to get out of bed just yet. Lying on my left side, only my hand was uncovered by the pillow and blankets around my face. I was wide-awake, thinking about my plans for the day ahead, when I felt something move on the bed near my knees. I have three cats, and know what it feels like when a cat jumps from the floor onto the bed. This is exactly what I felt, a cat landing on the bed. Then, I felt it walk up towards my pillow. I wanted so badly to pull the covers away from my face to look… but I truly felt frozen, it must have been fear, I’ve never felt anything like that before. I wanted to move, but couldn’t! Then, it rubbed its nose against my hand, and started purring… the thought came into my head that this kitty was saying, “I’m so glad you’re here.” I wasn’t afraid at all, it was oddly comforting and felt so real. I know I wasn’t dreaming, and that I did not imagine it! What I experienced is not unheard of; there are many documented
cases of animal ghosts and spirits. I found out later that a veterinarian had once lived there and had many cats during the time he and his family owned the home. I had an encounter with a ghost kitty!
Although my first ghostly encounter in Miss Caroline’s was a bit unnerving, I love this house, and recently went back to spend a few days there during the holidays. During our stay, we found out why the house is rumored to be haunted!
All of us heard footsteps upstairs when everyone was downstairs, in the same place over the dining room that I
heard them in November. When we went upstairs to investigate (it was daylight), the wooden floorboards creaked behind us in the room we had just walked through. When we looked, we could see no one there. The wardrobe cabinet in the upstairs hallway was opened several times in the days we were there, even though no one had been upstairs, and it opens and closes by turning a key in the lock.
One person heard a cat meow, and my ghost kitty came back to visit me again (I recognized the purr, and it was at about the same time in the morning). One of my friends woke up to an overwhelming smell of roses in her room, and we both briefly caught the scent of flowers in the dining room near the china cabinet. Someone heard a woman’s voice from the middle bedroom during the night, but that may have been one of us talking in our sleep. Psychics have said there is a woman’s spirit in the house, mainly in the upstairs middle bedroom. She has been named Rose due to her love of fresh roses and flowers. Her spirit is kind and caring, she is only there to watch
over the home.
Our experiences may seem tame to some people who are expecting to see ghosts, but it was enough to convince us that there are spirits or entities in the house. These spirits are not harmful, and we were never frightened to be there. It was a very unique and memorable weekend for all of us!
Miss Caroline’s Guest House has made the top of my list of unforgettable, unique and fun vacation destinations!
If you aren’t afraid of ghosts, or maybe if you are, if you just want to experience a unique vacation in a beautiful place, you have to stay here!

Our team has been there several times and have never been disappointed. Although I have never experienced the cat ghost, I think it is fantastic! I personally haven’t had experience with the lady of the house but the little girl and man have shown up on several EVP sessions. I would love to go back and just stay for the weekend. It is
a beautiful home to investigate or stay as a tourist.
